APAI: A Professional Association Marking 59 Years of Service in 2018
The Asphalt Pavement Association of Indiana (APAI) provides its members with technical training and marketing support for the production and construction of quality asphalt pavements. APAIs membership includes Indianas leading asphalt producer contractors, laydown contractors, liquid asphalt binder suppliers, engineering consultants, and other suppliers and service providers. Since 1959, the association has provided quality services to industry members and has been a credible source of technical information regarding smooth, quiet, cost-efficient and sustainable asphalt pavements.
APAI is the publics partner in building Indianas highway and street infrastructure. Through its committees and staff, the association works in close partnership with the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), and with many of the states cities, towns, and counties. APAI represents the asphalt pavement industry with outreach to organizations such as the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns (Aim), the Indiana Association of County Commissioners (IACC), the Indiana Section of the American Public Works Association (APWA), the Aviation Association of Indiana (AAI), and the Indiana Recycling Coalition. APAI additionally represents the industry through working partnerships with the Joint Transportation Research Program at Purdue University and the Build Indiana Council (BIC).
The Asphalt Pavement Association of Indiana is active in the educational community, funding scholarships at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Purdue University, Indiana State University, IUPUI and Trine University. Scholarships totaling over $50,000 per year are awarded to young men and women at these Indiana institutions.
APAI provides the industry with various technical workshops and training each year. The APAI Winter Conference and Trade Show is held each December in Indianapolis, and, in 2018, over 600 individuals and 50 vendors participated in the event. APAI also partners with INDOT to plan and put on the annual INDOT Certified Asphalt Lab Technician Program in January and Field Supervisor Program in February.
APAI is governed by a nineteen-member Board of Directors and is managed by a professional staff based at the association headquarters on the west side of Indianapolis. APAI works in close partnership on a variety of legislative, technical and regulatory issues with the National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA), a leading construction trade association based in suburban Washington, DC.
Through its active member involvement and extensive committee structure, APAI believes in sharing solutions to common problems, benchmarking best practices, and continuous product improvement. These efforts result in longer lasting and better value pavements for our customers.
